Myth as the Bridge Between Consciousness and RealityIn just a few weeks, our group of eight women will begin our Coming Home journey across Sri Lanka, a pilgrimage of yoga, Vedic meditation, and self-reflection. As we prepare to travel, I have been reflecting on the Ramayana – an ancient and mythical story that still pulses through the landscapes of India and Sri Lanka. The Ramayana tells the story of Prince Rama, whose wife Sita is abducted by Ravana, the ten-headed king of Lanka. Guided by the devoted Hanuman and an army of forest beings, Rama builds a bridge across the sea to rescue her. The tale culminates not only in reunion but in transformation – the restoration of harmony between love and awareness, the human and the divine. Growing up, I heard fragments of this story everywhere – woven through songs, temples, and place names. Places like Seetha Eliya, Ravana Falls, and Rama’s Bridge all whispered parts of it. These were the background stories of my childhood, part of the cultural fabric that surrounded me. Now, at this stage in my life, I find myself returning to these myths with new eyes – seeing in them a language of consciousness, a symbolic map of the soul. It feels like coming full circle: travelling back through the same landscapes, this time to explore and share their deeper meaning. It is a story of courage, devotion, and return – one that mirrors our own journey of coming home to the Self.
